Our April event offers a special songwriting workshop experience!
“Setting Out to Surprise”
Sometimes you don’t know how to get started. Sometimes you know all too well. David Megarrity introduces a playful set of strategies for generating and shaping material that opens up unexpected pathways into creating new songs.
Dr David Megarrity was once described as ‘being close as Brisbane has to a Renaissance Man’ (Rave Magazine).
He’s a writer, musician, songwriter, composer, and performer creating at the intersection of music, performance and projected image.
A full time artist awarded a Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Performing Arts Fellowship and part-time Senior Lecturer in Drama at the Queensland University of Technology, he has received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Creative Practice, and won the Queensland Premier’s Drama Award.
His practice-led PhD was in musicalizing theatre and theatricalizing music. He has composed for, and played in bands since 1990, playing festivals or gigs at many events in Queensland, Australia and overseas.
He’s written and released 12 full length albums with Friends of the Iguana, The Goodbye Notes, written for Laique and more lately Warmwaters and Tyrone and Lesley.
