PLEASE NOTE: THE MELBOURNE CIRCLE HAS MOVED TO THE 1ST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH!

What makes a song memorable? Think of some tunes you know which seem to reach across time and genre, and leave listeners humming along for years afterward. Do they have anything in common? A distinctive melody is probably one.

Join us for a full-session deep dive into melody-writing, in this custom-tailored workshop designed specifically for songwriters. We’ll explore the fundamentals of developing effective melodies – vocal and instrumental both – including what the “rules” are, and some options for consciously breaking them to enhance impact.

About the Presenter
Internationally seasoned professional vocalist, pianist, songwriter and performer Emily Saaen has also run her own studio as a composer, musician and music producer – and is currently a Vice Principal Singing Teacher at Vox Singing Academy which operates multiple locations around Melbourne.

In her youth, Emily received a fundamental classical education (vocal, piano, musical theory, solfeggio, composition) and privately trained in a range of contemporary singing techniques. She then went on to work with various rock, metal, dark-wave and gothic outfits – and further expanded her skills to encompass voice acting for animated films, TV shows, audiobook narration and musical theatre. She is the lead vocalist of both Australia’s CELTIC ILLUSION and its spin-off production ECLIPSE. Emily’s voice additionally features on multiple international releases and collaborations with bands and musicians across the world – all encompassing a performing, recording, producing and teaching career of two decades.
