Who can attend the ASC?

When ASC was first held in 2008, it attracted performing and non-performing songwriters from across the country. These days, the event also attracts non-writing performing artists, artist and songwriter managers, producers and others who work (or want to work) with songwriters or who want to learn about the craft of songwriting. Anyone interested in the craft and business of songwriting is welcome at ASC.

All the main seminars will be genre non-specific, so it doesn’t matter what genre you write, you will definitely benefit from them. The talks and sessions run by our professional Faculty will deal with specific genres. We definitely cover Pop, R&B/Urban, Rock, Country and Christian as these are the most popular genres. Our decisions on other genres to be covered will be based on the information we receive from your registration forms. If, for example, there are enough Hip Hop or Children’s songwriters attending to warrant a seminar discussion on those genres, we will endeavour to fill that need.

Carers and Support People  who hold a Companion Card or other proof of care/support status can attend the Australian Songwriters Conference to support an attendee and no fee will be charged. People attending as carers or support people of attendees cannot participate in the activities themselves (though they can assist the attendee where needed) and their meals must be purchased separately.  Once the attendee registers for the event, the carer needs to contact us as we will need to finalise their attendance and details for our records (mainly due to our COVID-19 Safety Plan).

Attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult parent/guardian. There will be no fee payable for the accompanying parent/guardian unless that parent/guardian intends to take part in the conference activities. Non-paying parents/guardians are welcome to attend the opening ceremony, closing ceremony and attendee performance nights and jam sessions, however they cannot attend the seminars, workshops or other conference sessions, or pitch songs on behalf of the attendee. An exception to this rule will be made for attendee carers/support people (see above) .

Pending seating availability, family and friends are welcome at our Opening Ceremony and Song Contest Awards night, and the closing speeches, as well as the nightly attendee live performances, however all other conference activities are for paying attendees only.  An exception to this rule will be made for attendee carers/support people (see above) .

Babies and young children will not be permitted into the conference activities, so please make adequate arrangements for their care during the conference. Family and friends are encouraged to discover all the great activities to be enjoyed around Ettalong and the greater Central Coast region while attendees are in sessions throughout the day.

The Australian Songwriters Conference organiser reserves the right to refuse entry into the event, or remove from the event, any person whose behaviour is deemed inappropriate. Inappropriate behaviour includes:

  • offensive and/or abusive language,
  • threatening or violent behaviour,
  • physical, verbal or sexual harassment,
  • any behaviour that threatens the health and safety of others,
  • the deliberate damage or theft of items, equipment or furnishings,
  • any other behaviour deemed inappropriate by the organiser.

Where a person is refused entry to, or removed from, the event for any of the aforementioned reasons, no refund of Conference fees or extras (meals, accommodation, travel or other expenses paid by that person to attend the event) will be payable.

What topics does the ASC cover?

All the main seminars are genre non-specific, so it doesn’t matter what genre you write, you will definitely benefit from them. The talks and sessions run by our professional Faculty will deal with specific genres. So far, we will definitely cover Pop, Rock, and Country as these are the most popular genres.

Whilst many of the seminars relate to the actual craft of songwriting, the ASC also includes workshops, seminars and activities focusing on demo and album production, publishing, royalties and contracts, performance and career topics, industry legalities, promotion, and the various markets where songs are used.

What does the Conference Fee cover?

The conference fee covers entry to all seminars, workshops, song pitching, use of on-site studio, showcases and networking during the event.  The fee also includes the ‘Founder’s Welcome Soiree’ on Thursday night, and your lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea from Friday to Monday during the event.

The conference fee does not include breakfast, dinner,  accommodation or entry in the ASC2021 Song Contest.

Breakfast and dinner can be ordered separately on the conference registration form.

Drive by Car

From Sydney head north on the M1 Pacific Motorway. (From Newcastle head south on the M1).

Take the Gosford /Woy Woy Exit, drive through Kariong and turn right after the Shell Service Station (you’ll see the signs for Woy Woy).

Follow this road down the hill (its a long descent and takes about 15 minutes – take care on the hairpin corners)

Keep following the road, over the railway line and straight ahead through the roundabout at the intersection of Ocean Beach Road and Rawson Road (civilisation at last!).

Continue down Rawson Road to the traffic lights at Blackwall Road – turn right.

Follow Blackwall Road down a long straight stretch, follow it around the right-hand hairpin corner (Blackwall Rd becomes Memorial Ave) around the mountain, passing a few commercial and industrial premises and a service station, until you get to another roundabout (we love our roundabouts!) on the T intersection at Maitland Bay Drive.

Turn left onto Maitland Bay Drive and continue about 500 meters then turn right into Picnic Parade (you’ll see the sign for Ettalong).

Follow Picnic Parade down to (another) roundabout and turn right into Ocean View Road – the resort is approx 1500 meters up the road on the corner of Ocean View Road and Memorial Ave.

The Resort’s undercover car park (for those staying at the resort) is located in Schnapper Road. If you are staying at other accommodation in Ettalong, you can park curbside at the resort or use the main car park located further along Schnapper Road at the rear of the resort and market area.
