What an opportunity to be able to welcome Michelle Barry to ASC Sydney Circle, with a special presentation on “Lessons for Songwriters from a Studio Professional”!

Michelle Barry is a professional producer/sound engineer from Sydney. With a great love for music, she started engineering at Paradise Studio in 1990. This gave her the opportunity to work with many independent Australian musicians of the time before refining her craft in studios in at home, London and NYC. Highlights along the way included US indie artists Jessie Murphy In The Woods, Julian Verlard, The Pierces. UK funk from RnB Junior and G-Nation, and Sydney Hip Hop artists Maya Jupiter, Ebony Williams. She current works out of Church St Studios and various Sydney studios such as Oceanic. Recent projects include folk group The Charm, singer/guitarist Max Gencher, her own initiative Noisygirls, as well as skill sharing through teaching at SAE Institute.

There will also be a Q&A section for you to ask any burning questions about what you can do as a writer ahead of a session to make the most of your time in the studio and bring out the best in your songs. Or perhaps you are setting up a home studio and would like advice on how to create inexpensive demos that still sound professional? Whatever your question, join us in February for this amazing chance to develop your skills and knowledge base!

For the song critiques in the second half, you can play your song live (unamplified), or have a recorded version of your song on a device that has a headphone jack to plug into our speaker.  Plus, bring 15-20 copies of your lyrics on the night.
Register your song title by emailing ascsydneycircle@gmail.com by midday on Sunday 16th February (NB do not email the song itself).
Remember: If you pre-register your song title and join us on the night but there is not enough time to get to your song, we carry over your registration to the next month that includes critiques, so you don’t lose your place in the queue. In other words, if a song is not heard due to time constraints, the registration place is carried over. However, if a song is not heard because of non-attendance, the registration is extinguished.

We will be starting sharp at 7:30pm, so arrive slightly early (from 7pm) to chat, order a meal from upstairs, and be ready for things to kick off at 7.30pm!

This event is free for ASC Members. Guests can also attend their first two meetings for free, and casual attendance after that is $15.
